Summer is the season of dresses and skirts. Light fabrics, fresh colours — and more attention to what we wear underneath. Because under a sheer, light or fitted dress, underwear is not invisible on its own — it is invisible only when it is well chosen.
The right underwear under a summer dress solves three problems at once: it cannot be seen, it cannot be felt and it does not irritate the skin in hot weather. When all three conditions are met, we simply forget it is there. And that is exactly when the dress looks perfect.
Fabric Is Everything in Hot Weather
In summer, underwear works under extreme conditions — high temperatures, humidity, active movement. Not every fabric is up to the task.
Polyester retains heat and moisture — exactly the opposite of what we need in hot weather. Underwear made from polyester creates an unpleasant feeling and irritates the skin with prolonged wear during the hot months.
Cotton breathes well but dries slowly. During an active summer day it retains moisture and loses its shape more quickly. A good choice at home, but not ideal under thin summer clothes.
Micromodal is a natural fabric made from beech fibres — exceptionally soft, breathable and pleasant to the touch. It absorbs moisture better than cotton and dries faster. An excellent choice for summer underwear, especially for sensitive skin.
Polyamide with elastane is the perfect choice for summer. Lightweight, breathable, quick-drying and smooth — it does not retain moisture, does not irritate the skin and remains invisible under clothes. That is exactly why it is the fabric of modern summer underwear.
The rule is simple: under summer clothes — polyamide or micromodal, never polyester.
Invisible Underwear Under a Summer Dress
Under a sheer or light dress, underwear shows in two ways — by shape and by colour. Both problems have a solution.
Shape — smooth microfibre underwear without protruding seams is the only kind that leaves no outlines under a fitted garment. The Silky Touch collection was created precisely for this — ultra-thin polyamide microfibre, delicate seams, fine elastic and precise cuts that follow the body without outlining it.
Colour — white underwear under a white dress is a common mistake. White contrasts with skin tone and shows through thin fabric. Nude blends with skin tone and remains completely invisible — even under a white or pastel dress. Black is ideal under dark clothes.
The rule: nude under light clothes, black under dark — and always smooth fabric without raised seams.
Thigh Protection — Essential Under Summer Dresses
Hot weather, humidity and active movement increase the risk of thigh chafing. Under summer dresses and skirts — with no barrier between the legs — the problem appears quickly and worsens with every step.
The solution is well-chosen anti-chafing underwear. Lightweight, breathable and completely invisible under the dress, it creates a gentle protective barrier that prevents friction before it appears.
For the hottest days — tulle anti-chafing shorts are the most airy option. Barely felt on the body and allowing the skin to breathe. For everyday wear under fitted dresses — microfibre shorts are the most practical choice. And thigh bands are the minimalist solution under dresses with a slit — covering only the friction zone and looking elegant even when visible.
We wear them preventively — before the problem appears, not after.
Slip Under a Dress — When Underwear Is Not Enough
Sometimes briefs are not enough under a summer dress. With sheer fabrics, unlined dresses or for formal occasions — a slip is the right solution.
A slip under a dress solves several problems at once: it prevents showing through, stops the dress from clinging to the body in the heat and provides additional comfort with all-day wear.
How to Choose the Right Slip for Every Dress
Slips come in two main types — a full slip and a skirt slip. Both are suitable for wearing under dresses, skirts or two-piece suits with skirts. To be well chosen, the slip must match the length, colour and style of the outer garment. Under a mini dress or knee-length dress — a short skirt slip. Under a long dress or dress with a slit — a slip of appropriate length that does not show during movement. Nude is universal under light dresses, black under dark ones.
In most cases we choose slips in polyamide and elastane — lightweight, elastic, breathable and quick-drying. We avoid polyester slips — they retain heat and create an unpleasant feeling with prolonged wear.
Caring for Underwear in Summer
In summer we change our clothes and underwear much more often and this requires extra attention.
We wash more often but gently. A delicate programme up to 30 degrees preserves the fabric and elasticity even with daily washing. Hot water breaks down elastic fibres and shortens the life of the underwear.
A mild fragrance-free detergent — strong detergents and fabric softeners leave residues in the fabric which in hot weather and with direct contact with the skin can cause irritation.
Air drying is strongly recommended. Polyamide microfibre dries exceptionally quickly — within an hour or two. The tumble dryer and direct sunlight damage the fibres and make the fabrics rougher over time.

In Short
The right underwear under summer dresses and skirts must meet three requirements at once: it cannot be seen, it cannot be felt and it must not irritate the skin in hot weather.
Polyamide, cotton or micromodal — never polyester. Nude under light clothes, black under dark. Smooth fabric without raised seams under fitted dresses. Anti-chafing shorts — preventively, before the problem appears. A slip — when the dress is sheer.
When everything under the dress is well chosen in terms of style, colour and fabric, the dress looks perfect — exactly as it should.
